Deciding on a Brief

It is important that I decide and chose the right media brief In which I will be carrying out for my A2 course work. It is important I choose one which I feel is going to help me achieve the grade to the best of my ability. When deciding I had 13 briefs that I could choose from so I had to ensure I read over all of them to ensure I understood all the details before deciding which ones to rule out straight away. When looking I immediately ruled out brief 3, 4, 8 , 9 , 11 and 13 and began looking at the ones which i felt i could achieve which were brief 1, 2 , 5 , 7 and 10.

AS Overview

Below I have uploaded the final product of my AS production. My AS final production has helped to expand my media knowledge as well as help to improve my media skills. The final product in which we created presented a district nurse visiting one of her elderly patients. It is based around a horror genre which represents supernatural beliefs that begin to haunt the young district nurse.

Areas of success:
From this production that I completed at AS, it has helped me to learn ways in which I can create an effective final product through the use of planning, filming and editing. I felt as though me, as well as my group together managed to make great use of all the time we was given to plan, film and edit within the timescale which allowed us to meet the deadline on time. Therefore I feel as though one of mine and my groups area of successes was having a good detailed plan which made our production run smoothly without delays. Other areas of success included meeting the criteria for the genre we chose of horror. We managed to meet this through the use of correct camera shots, angles, sound and editing skills. The use of sound and editing made our opening sequence come together making it clear to the audience of the genre.

Areas of Improvement:
Within our final production I feel my group and I used a range of techniques which helped it to be as successful as it was. However, I feel there was areas in which I could improve on at A2 which would be mainly with our continuity of the final product. There were parts of the product which showed a lack of continuity especially at the beginning with the district nurse having a different type of jacket on in the car compared to the jacket worn throughout the rest of the sequence. From this I am able to learnt to take extra care with filming. In addition i also feel as though the titles within the opening sequence could have been improved as they weren't shown to the best of our ability. I feel as though for A2 I will need to ensure I think about titles if I was going to use them before filming to make sure there was space within the scene to place them.

Audience Feedback:
I feel that receiving audience feedback is an important aspect when creating a product. This is because it makes it clear whether it worked as the audience are able to tell us what worked well and what maybe didn't work as well. By having this feedback I am able to use this when beginning A2. For example, my group received some audience feedback which helped to point out the problem we faced with continuity. It made it clear to my group that this was a major part of the final product that pulled it down, and has helped me to realise this is something I will look out in the future.
